september 12,2008, we had our much awaited first game. guess what we were up against the zobel girls. i have been hearing they were really good; and they did not fail me in that part. going back, we were against them. everyone was optimistic, well at least trying to be optimistic. we did not train for 2 weeks, and we were not ready to say the least. some of our team mates, prioritized other events. i don't blame them for that. and i understand how they felt; being torn between two things that you love to do. we lacked players. when we went to zobel we were only 13 or 14. and 4 more arrived in the second half. coach was furious because a game is a game. and players can't just come and go. and he added pa na we are one team. we stick to one another. we had to go to our games all at the same time. warm up all at the same time. he was pointing out that we should work and function as one unit. no one should be functioning all on their own. well ok, the zobel girls beat us. hats off to them. i liked how they played they had SKILLS, ENDURANCE, DISCIPLINE and the best quality i saw in them was that they talk to each other during the game. they had discipline because they were there so early. they got dressed so fast, and they were all moving so synchronized. it was as if they were one. this was not a game i was expecting. i know we are not good yet, but i think we could improve. if only we would have the discipline, and determination to improve. first, we should get our priorities straight. know which one should come first. this or that. don't waste your effort in trying out for the football team. imagine you made effort to show up in the try outs. then when you got in and got your jerseys, where did we all go? we show up late in training. sometimes we don't even go to training because of certain things. team mates, we have a lot to prove. remember what coach told us... the thing that will happen to the team? next, we have to learn how to listen to coach. in the game, when the zobel girls got a free kick, coach was telling us to form a wall. but did anyone listen to coach? NO ONE. we all stared at each other as if by some divine intervention, a wall would suddenly appear and block her free kick. and when coach tells us to move up do we move up? when coach tells us to move up it is because of the "offside trap". whenever the zobel player would go inside, and the defenders would be in front of her, she would be offside if the ball is passed to her. coach is putting in strategy. third, we should all bring what is necessary. what do i mean? bring your own SHIN GUARDS. kim could not go in because her shin guards were borrowed. and its not only to look like a soccer player, but it is for your protection. the shin guards are like knee pads. they prevent you from breaking your shins. if you break your shins, you would never be able to play football again. i know someone who broke her shin, and now she still has her cast on. and the doctor told her not to play football na. there are a lot of shin guards out there. it does not have to adidas or nike. you could buy the cheap ones in the sports store. they would still protect you. trust me when you play with shin guards, you won't be worrying about people or about the ball hitting your legs. next, we should go to training.as the saying goes "no rock is perfected without friction". we could not play well if we don't train well. 5:00 is the start of the training. not 5:00 you go to gym 2 and dress up. we can't really say that we did our best in that game because as i have said we were not able to train for 2 weeks. but i have this thinking that if we don't train, our skills won't just go bye bye that fast. i mean maybe our endurance, and i felt that i the game. all i am saying is, we should give our very best in every game or even just training because we have a lot to prove! you would not like people making fun of us, would you? we should prove them wrong. we should prove that us football girls are not just posers! that we have skills. but before we reach that we should first be disciplined. DISCIPLINE IS THE KEY
i love you all so much. its just that i had to get it out of my chest. i am not blaming anyone. i just feel really bad coz i know we could do much better. i am sorry if i kept shouting during the game ["wake up"]. i just wanted our team to be somehow spared from embarrassment. i know how kim feels. being our leader, most of the burden is with her. don't worry kim, were going to be doing our very best on the next game! i love you so much girls! we can all do this!
TEAM.
